Flashes and Floaters Explained

Floaters appear as tiny, shadowy specks, cobweb-like lines, or small rings drifting in your field of vision. They occur when the vitreous gel inside your eye shrinks or clumps. These floaters cast shadows on your retina, creating the illusion of specks drifting across your vision.

Flashes are sudden bursts of light that flicker in your peripheral vision. These flashes can occur due to the tugging or pulling on the retina, usually caused by the shrinking vitreous gel inside the eye.

What Causes These Disturbances?

The vitreous gel changes consistency as we age, leading to floaters and occasional flashes. However, some factors can increase your risk of these visual disturbances:

  • Trauma to the eye.
  • Retinal detachment.
  • Diabetic retinopathy.
  • Certain types of migraines.

If you experience a sudden increase in floaters and flashes, seeking immediate medical attention is essential, as it could indicate a more serious eye condition.

See Clearly Through Flashes and Floaters

While floaters typically don’t require treatment, we offer solutions for this bothersome condition. Surgical removal or laser treatment can minimize their impact, enhancing visual comfort.

For occasional flashes due to aging, managing the underlying condition often reduces their frequency. We’ll support you through every step, ensuring your vision remains clear and vibrant.
